Sitting Firm Chairs at The Real Food Store Café

August - November 2013

We are thrilled to be teaming up with Sitting Firm Furniture Makers on an exciting research project. Sitting Firm are specialists in fine craftsmanship & design, both modern and traditional. We will be showcasing some of their superb modern Windsor chair designs in the café space from August.

The project explores the potential to develop the market for timber products grown and made in the South West and Britain. The project is supported by South West Woodland Renaissance. A selection of Windsor chairs made from English Ash will be available to customers to test out in the café. These stunning chairs are not just practical furniture, but handcrafted heirloom pieces with a life time guarantee.

All of Sitting Firms chairs are handmade to order using sustainable British hardwood, much of which is sourced from FSC certified woodland, managed using continuous cover forestry principles in Dorset. Continuous cover forestry principles aim to maintain visually, structurally and biologically diverse woodlands, while producing high quality timber and minimizing the ecological impact of felling. Find out more about the provenance of the furniture, including information on how the timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests and how the waste produced during the making of the chairs and machining of the components, fuels the kilns and heats the Sitting Firm workshops.

The chairs will be available to purchase, along with a range of Sitting Firm chopping boards, made from off-cuts. We would also appreciate any willing customers to fill in a questionnaire regarding their thoughts and views on the project. All customers who complete the questionnaire will be entered into a prize draw to win a beautiful chopping board. When you visit the café for a tea, coffee, cake or lunch during this period, you will also have the chance to take part in a local project that celebrates sustainability, design and beauty.
