    Store Update

It's March already and as we look forward to Spring, we are all feeling a little more lively. In fact we have ample reason to celebrate as it's our 2nd birthday at the end of the month! Our gorgeous pink bovine Blush is in full bloom, as she dominates our window display decorated in handmade paper flowers. Fresh produce in the store includes a limited supply of Purple Sprouting Broccoli, plenty of Swiss Chard, Kale, Leeks and Spinach, making it very easy for you to keep those greens in your diet. We are on a role with the hosting of various local musical extravaganzas with past guests including Tobias Ben Jacob, The Sidewalk Anthem, Woodford Green and Ben Akira Tallamy - keep referring to our events page for more details of future gigs. Meet the Producer: Piper's Farm

Throughout 2013, we aim to keep providing Exeter shoppers, both local and visiting, with a broad range of fresh, larder and special products from Devon and the West Country. Around 70% of our producers are located in Devon and almost 100% of our suppliers are based within the South West. We'd like to introduce you to another of our local producers, Piper's Farm.

Peter Grieg of Pipers Farm

Peter (above) and Henri Grieg run the 50 acre Piper's Farm, based in the Culm Valley, near Cullompton, just over 10 miles from the store in Exeter. The Grieg family are dedicated to producing meat that is sensational to eat, using traditional methods that allow animals to reach their natural maturity. They began their business with a full understanding of the harm of constantly striving for low priced food, produced on a large scale. Today they are at the heart of a community of 25 small, family run farms with the same ethos. Their successful butcher's shop is located in Magdalen Road, Exeter.

We have recently taken stock of some of the ready meal range from Piper's Farm which includes Beef Stew with Herb Dumplings, Ragu Bolognese, Chicken Korma and Goan Pork. Each dish has been prepared by the farm's chefs Tom and Sohan, in their on-site kitchen. The meat is bred and reared by Piper's Farm and each small batch is cooked using pure, natural ingredients. The Beef Stew for example, uses Piper's Farm Red Ruby Beef with strips of their own Saddleback bacon.

If you had come to think that ready meals were now a no-go area, then you can rest assured, that this range are the real deal. Having a night off from the careful preparation of your own meals is still an option. Tasty, local, good quality food that is also convenient - thank goodness for that.
