Store Update
The store is brimming with hearty Winter vegetables at the moment, including January King cabbage, Savoy cabbage, kale (curly and hungry gap), Triplo and Red Rudolf potatoes, leeks and swede, all from Devon Life's Best Producer of the Year, Shillingford Organics.
We understand that there are certain products (but very few) we may never be able to source locally such as coffee, tea and some larder goods, no matter how much we would like to, so we aim to support local co-operatives such as Essential in Bristol and farmers abroad in those instances. As supporters of our own local producers, we feel it is important to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight, which is now in full flow running until the 10th March, and highlights the value and importance of smallholder farmers across the world. Watch out for featured Fairtrade produce in the store and café.
DO YOU LOVE MUSIC? We are venturing into the world of performance over the coming months, with a number of live gigs to be held in the café after hours. Our first event, held on Saturday 16th February, featured Tobias Ben Jacob with support from The Sidewalk Anthem, and sold out in advance. On Saturday 16th March Woodford Green was supported by Ben Akira Tallamy. Woodford Green have been described as producing 'beautifully delicate, coruscating melodies and wistful, intertwined boy/girl vocal melodies.' Our next event will take place on Saturday 13th April with the Dakar Audio Club (Acoustic) and Paul Kouatchou. Tickets cost £7 (£5 conc.) in advance from the store. Winter stews with Emma's Bread are available for £6 and there is always a bar serving local tipples.
FANCY A SPOT OF ART APPRECIATION? Our current exhibition features a range of beautiful, original artworks from local artists centred on the theme of Winter into Spring. Paintings in acrylic, oil, watercolour and pastels as well as photography feature in the exhibition and all works are for sale. The exhibition runs until Saturday 23rd March.
Don't forget - around 70% of our producers come from within Devon and the remainder are within the West Country region or beyond. We only source outside the region if we cannot find essential products for our customers close by. If you would like to know more about our producers, please see our suppliers page.
