Winter into Spring

7th January - 23rd March 2013

Winter into Spring celebrated the changing Devon landscape, as we look ahead to warmer temperatures in the move from one season to the next. The exhibition features several Devon Artists Network (DAN) members - Bert Bruins, Hugo Lines, Georgina Crawford, Sylvia Bird and Rachael Bennett.

Bert Bruins showcases his Westcountry landscapes in oil, acrylic and watercolour, paying homage to artists such as Brueghel, Rembrandt, Towne, Cezanne and Peploe, whilst Rachael Bennett's sea images explore the luminal spaces within landscape, descriptive of form, light and place in an atmospheric way. Rachael's works are taken from her series titled ‘From Green space to blue space’. Georgina Crawford specialises in figurative pastel paintings of Dartmoor and the South West coastline as well as large monochrome ink pieces, usually of trees, including 'Split Willow', painted specially for this exhibition. Hugo Lines is both a member of DAN and the Exeter Visual Arts (EVA) and has exhibited with us before. The use of oils and Hugo's distinctive painterly style, combine to lend these landscapes a powerful presence. Plymouth based artist Sylvia Bird and flower photographer Katya Goozee complete our selection of local artists offering us a glimpse of Spring ahead of time.
