Store is finalist at DEBI Awards 2011!

It is a positive achievement to be recognised by DEBI & the judging panel- in our 8th month of trading! The Real Food Store would like to thank all at DEBI for the interest shown in this new community business and the recognition of our commitment to a high standard of business practice in relation to the environment, a key example being our commitment to low food miles- we believe in sourcing as much produce as possible from near Exeter & being accessible to city centre shoppers. Our framed finalist award now has pride of place at the store. The other two finalists in this category were 'Alta Lyn Alpacas', an environmentally friendly alpaca stud farm on the North Devon coast; Dartmoor Chilli Farm, with their minimum impact business including an off-grid nursery. The winner of the category was Darts Farm- they have recently installed over 1000 PV solar panels which supply most of their energy. The Awards event was hosted by the Met office and TV personality Dick Strawbridge presented the awards with gusto and great humour. Andy Vickery, DEBI Chairman presided over the awards with DEBI panel judges introduding the finalists and winners. The overall winner of the DEBI awards 2011 is Ashwoods Automotive a small Exeter based low carbon automotive technology business specialising in hybrid electric and electric vehicles. It was fascinating to hear about the different ways in which companies are reducing their carbon footprint. Also a great evening and a chance to network with some really inspiring business people.
