Bert Bruins

Bert Bruins is a local, North Devon based artist who has painted in oils from the age of 13. This solo, Spring-inspired collection of Bert's work, demonstrates his love of and experimentation with colour, contrast and composition.
Bert Bruins was born in the Netherlands and moved to Devon 20 years ago. He now mainly paints Westcountry subjects, that show the intense beauty of nature, the local countryside and, occasionally, townscapes. Bert is inspired by artists such as the Scottish colourists (Peploe, Cadell, Hunter) and the 'railway poster' artists of the 1930s including Richmond and Wilkinson. Bert's keen interest in both abstract and figurative styles can be seen in all of his works exhibited here. Local scenes depicted include Woodbury Common, Exmoor and Hatherleigh.
Outside of his ongoing affair with creating works of art and experimenting with various media and subjects, Bert can be found walking, baking and gardening, all the while gathering ideas for his next project.
